2020 Primary Analysis: 62nd Assembly District

The 62nd Assembly District falls entirely within the boundaries of Los Angeles County. Autumn Burke (D) is the incumbent in this race.

This district shows the following party registration for the three largest political groups (the source is http://www.l2political.com):

Republican- 10.6%
Democrat- 59.6%
NPP- 24.4%

Another very strong district for Democrats. Here are the result for the June 2018 race:

Autumn Burke (D)- 80.8%
Al Hernandez (R)- 19.2%

We saw a total of 70,147 ballots cast in the primary. The results for the general election were not unexpected based on the primary results. In November, Burke won by a margin of 82.9% to 17.1%.

In spite of the registration gap, the Republicans still fielded a candidate for 2020. Here are the March 2020 results:

Autumn Burke (D)- 84.4%
Robert Steele (R)- 15.6%

97,805 ballots were cast in this race. The results show a bleak picture for Republicans.

We will now see a rematch between Autumn Burke (D) and Robert Steele (R). Burke is the elected incumbent and Steele is an entrepreneur.

The registration is just too far gone for this seat. I predict that Autumn Burke wins in November.
